<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\nNew York City has always been a special place for me \u2014 it\u2019s a city that can turn your life upside down in a single day, where everything feels possible. I\u2019ve been in New York during both the good and the not-so-great times. And every time I have to leave, it gets harder \u2014 even if I\u2019ve only spent a few days or a few months there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My latest trip was only six days long, and this time I tried to see the city from a different perspective: The good news is that most places now offer vegan or dairy-free alternatives \u2014 even the small bagel shop on the corner. But I had<\/em> to check out some of the \u201cInsta-famous\u201d spots to give you all an honest review of whether they\u2019re actually worth the hype.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n I visited the Brooklyn branch in Williamsburg. If you\u2019re looking for a plant-based brunch spot, this is definitely the place to go. I recommend going as early as possible, as they don\u2019t take bookings and operate on a first-come, first-served basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I ordered a watermelon juice (which was delicious<\/em>) and their avocado toast with poached eggs and potatoes. My friend had the French toast, and to be honest, it was a bit of a letdown \u2014 they used standard sliced bread instead of brioche, and for two slices with a few berries, it felt overpriced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Also, a heads up: I spent two minutes taking photos of our food, and by then, both mine and my friend\u2019s dishes had gone cold. Oops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This was the perfect little spot to grab a morning coffee and a fresh pastry. I went during the week, so they weren\u2019t serving breakfast at the time \u2014 but it\u2019s still on my list for next time, because I have<\/em> to try their brunch menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Apollonia has a lovely, local neighbourhood vibe. No frills, just good coffee and calm energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Malibu Farm has been on my list for years<\/em>, ever since I discovered their original location on Malibu Pier. Organic, locally sourced ingredients \u2014 it ticks all the boxes for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I had my heart set on their a\u00e7a\u00ed bowl, but apparently so did everyone else… because by the time I arrived, they had run out. So instead, I went with a berry smoothie and granola, which still hit the spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Last but definitely not least: Urban Backyard<\/strong>. This was my favourite<\/em> spot. A tiny vegan coffee shop tucked away in the heart of Little Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What I love most: they\u2019re completely plastic-free, using HEY Straws<\/strong> instead of plastic or soggy paper ones.
